Whenever doing a website redesign, I think it’s so important to
reassess the purpose of each page. If you don’t learn anything
from the page, neither will your viewers!
Building out a navigation map that takes SEO into consideration
will save you a lot of heartache throughout your project! The sites that Google will rank highest for a particular search term are the ones that appear the most relevant and that have the best content and best design. At the same time though, they will also be the ones that have the most trust. This means that Google considers them an authoritative resource and expects the information on their site to be accurate and well-written. How do you educate people so they do value it? Basically, if search engines don’t understand your pages, those pages will fall out of the index and drop all of their traffic.
Links make the web go round.
Different search queries with different intent will result in different results. Google has become so sophisticated that when a web user searches for a “How to find organic foods” he or she will get a different results page than if he or she typed in the search query “where is the closest grocery store.” The intent behind both searches are different and Google knows it. People really love
to check their search rankings. Many companies want to use this as a measurement of SEO progress over time, but it is a bit problematic, for a variety of reasons. Another quick, and valuable SEO tactic – see what your competitors are ranking for. Go to one of the tools used to check out our own rankings, but put in a competitor domain. You’ll quickly see what terms they are getting traffic from, and can take the best for yourself! One of the best tools available to help you measure the success of your SEO campaign is Google Analytics. This fantastic and free tool can be used to monitor how much traffic you’re getting to your website and where this traffic is coming from. You can easily identify pages that are working well for your business, as well as highlighting areas for potential improvement.
Find, target and shoot
Hopefully your website is laid out in a way that allows users to easily find the content or pages that you want to promote. Search engines also
assess, in great detail, the
technical aspects of your website. For example,
how quickly the site loads plays a major role in your
website ranking. Search engines also take into
account how accessible your server is. Because,
ultimately, Google and other search engines want
to provide the best possible search results. So, the
aim is to guide visitors to sites which work well, and
which can always be accessed and used. Many of the top websites in various industries use keywords in their URLs, but others which don’t are still able to rank highly. Much as we now know that writing quality content is better than stuffing it with keywords, the same applies to creating quality URLs. In the end, it comes down to what makes sense for your brand and website. Search engines have been tailored to predict the intent of customers, which explains why some searches have features such as local 3-packs, featured images or videos and Quick Answers. Understanding the intent behind searches allows marketers to create content messages and formats that will most likely appeal to customers.
Link building strategies
Duplicate content can appear on a website for different reasons. Sometimes the same content is accessible and indexed under different URLs. This makes it difficult for search engines to determine the best search result among the different URLs. The result is “cannibalization” in the rankings. The website cannot appear in top rankings since Google is unable to choose the best version. Bear in mind that your keyword or phrase should be the most frequently used term in the body text of any given webpage. This is called keyword density. However you shouldn’t overuse this signal – if you stuff the copy with keywords then your text won’t be readable and Google will likely penalise you for not writing for human readers. Industry-relevant links are often the easiest links for small business owners to acquire. Many of them simply involve asking your existing contacts at companies or organizations with whom you do business. According to
SEO Consultant, Gaz Hall: "Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is another important strategy that helps grow your website traffic. The number of backlinks you have on your website plays a crucial role when it comes to ranking your blog on Google."
What should you look for?
It is important to remember though that organic link building does not happen overnight. You have to build a perceptive strategy to generate the highest quality of content and then promote it amongst the influencers of your market to gain organic links. Google doesn’t want
to deliver you “results” anymore, they want to deliver answers.
And the best answers don’t come from content farms, they come from websites that
are crafted with their visitors -- human beings -- in mind. When you're wrting your fabulous website copy. remember that your keywords should be completely relevant to the subject you are writing about on the page. If you want to rank for ‘seo consultant’ and you stuff every webpage with these keywords even if they have nothing to do with these keywords then you will be found out. Most people browsing the internet will visit and leave pages in quick bursts. Many of them don’t convert while on your website. Some of them may visit while your product is out of stock. Others may just be in the “curious” stage and not ready to make a purchase yet.
